The Lakers’ season cannot be defined as less than complicated. The performance of the team, with a balance of 24-27 and being ninth in the Western Conference, makes it clear that there are things that do not work, but beyond their own planning errors, on a physical level they are not having any luck either.
At the beginning of the campaign LeBron was absent in 10 of the first 16 games, later Anthony Davis has been out for a month, and now it is again El Rey who has problems with his left knee. LeBron’s illness, which has made him absent from the team’s last three games (all have ended in defeat), is not serious, but it may be a warning that he needs some regularization of his minutes on the track.
To be exact, James felt discomfort in his joint a few days ago, which made him quickly dismiss the idea of him continuing to play to get an MRI to see what was going on. That test ruled that he had “generalized inflammation” in his left knee, which led him to abandon the Lakers’ tour of the Eastern Conference to return to Los Angeles for treatment.
Such a problem has appeared just when the star of the Angelenos was at his best. Although the team’s results have not finished being good, LeBron has linked up to 18 games scoring at least 25 points, an outrage for a 37-year-old player who has been in the NBA since 2003.
Returning to the injury, Frank Vogel was questioned about it at the end of the game against the Hawks. The head coach of the Lakers has not ruled out his player ahead of Wednesday’s home game against Portland, but he does explain that he will only be on the floor if he is fully recovered.
“About the next game, we just have to keep an eye on it day by day. “As long as there is swelling in the knee, he will not play. We will get it back as soon as we can », he announces.
One thing is for LeBron to return and another for him to do so in the same conditions as before the knee problem appeared. The feeling is that the Lakers are needing their star to spare no effort simply to fight for one of the last playoff spots (they clearly point to the play in). If, as it seems, entering the top six translates into an impossibility, we may see him rest more games and decrease his minutes. Vogel thus analyzes the workload of his pupil.
“I think about it every day. We are always aware of the burden he carries and are in constant communication with him and the medical team. About what we do in the future with the knee and where it is now, it is an important job for the medical team and see what they understand is better. It is not something that depends on both the coach and the doctors », he says.
