Annika Koch won the Triathlon World Cup in Huatulco, Mexico.
After her seventh place at the end of May in Arzachena, Italy, the 23-year-old from TuS Griesheim celebrated the first World Cup victory of her career.
“It’s great, I was hoping for a podium and felt good throughout the race,” said Koch: “You always race to win, but that doesn’t happen that often. It’s just the best feeling.”
At the finish over the sprint distance of 750 meters swimming, 20 kilometers on the bike and five kilometers running, last year’s runner-up at the European Championships relegated Canadian Emy Legault to second place by twelve seconds. Third place went to Italy’s Bianca Seregni in temperatures above 30 degrees.
