Is FC Bayern threatened with a crash? That’s what Sven Ulreich says

Goalkeeper Sven Ulreich has commented on the possible negative effects of the numerous corona cases at FC Bayern on the Bundesliga title fight.

He “doesn’t believe and hope” that things will get exciting again at the top of the table, Ulreich said in the “Image”-Interview. “We will continue to do everything we can to do a good job here.”

The record champions, who recently missed several infected professionals, lost the start of the second half of the season against Borussia Mönchengladbach. “But if we build on the performances of 2021, I’m very sure that we’ll get the points we need for the title,” added Ulreich.

FC Bayern: Sven Ulreich urges “caution”

With regard to further corona infections, however, “caution is required,” said the 33-year-old keeper.

Ulreich explained: “I’m reserved when it comes to contacts anyway, but of course you always make sure to be even more careful in certain situations. The measures have also been tightened up again in the dressing room. We’re all interested in the Bundesliga continuing we can finish the season.”

The first days after the short winter break were “of course difficult” because of the corona situation at FC Bayern, Ulreich described. “We had already received some information on vacation, then the start of training was postponed. Of course, at a certain point you start thinking about how many players will be out.”

Manuel Neuer as a field player? Sven Ulreich comments on mind games

According to many experts, Manuel Neuer would have been an option as a field player against Gladbach if the national goalkeeper had not also missed the game because of his positive corona test.

Ulreich reacted to such mental games with a wink: “In my opinion, Manu is the best goalkeeper in the world in terms of football, theoretically he could also play in the field. He would have the necessary physique and with his footballing class he would certainly be able to do it.”

According to Ulreich, FC Bayern could have put together an “interesting line-up with Neuer against Gladbach – I was in goal and he was in six or something …”

According to Ulreich, there is no end in sight for the regular keeper, who is still contractually bound until 2023. “Why should he think about retiring? I see him in training all the time, he’s in top form. He’s got a lot of quality that he uses every week. I think he can play for a few more years.”

Sven Ulreich: “A lot of things didn’t fit” at HSV

Ulreich left his own future at Bayern open in view of his expiring contract. “I haven’t talked to Bayern yet about how things will go from summer onwards. But I hope that we will do that in the next few weeks. I’ll let that come to me.”

He was “at an age where you don’t do too many experiments anymore. That’s why my priority is to talk to Bayern. Then we’ll see what the plan is. Otherwise I have to think about other things, but I’m busy with that not me yet.”

During his short spell at Hamburger SV last season, “many things didn’t fit. Be it in the club, in the team, of course with me,” said Ulreich. “But I wish HSV all the best and I hope they make the leap this year. The club deserves it.”
