Immediate replacement for Davies? Nagelsmann takes a stand

In the coming weeks, FC Bayern Munich will have to do without left-back Alphonso Davies. However, coach Julian Nagelsmann does not call for an immediate replacement for the Canadian.

Before the away game of the record champions at 1. FC Köln, the trainer commented on Saturday about the absence of Davies, who caught a heart muscle inflammation after a corona infection.

“He’s fine. If you suffer from something like that, you usually don’t notice it,” said Nagelsmann on “Sky”: “It’s important that we do the examinations meticulously and that’s why we diagnosed it. It’s important that he can heal, but it’s also a shame because Alphonso had just come back. We need his quality in the position and with his downtime uncertain it’s particularly annoying.”

Nevertheless, the 34-year-old immediately denied the question of whether he would like reinforcements for the flank.

“In Lucas Hernández we have a player in the squad who can play the full-back position and in Richards a player who can play it with a different profile. We also have players in midfield who can play there – even if it’s not on the Alphonso’s level is happening,” stressed Nagelsmann.

Winter newcomers to FC Bayern not ruled out

However, the coach left open a back door for winter newcomers. “We have important weeks ahead of us in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League, so it’s important to sound out the market,” Nagelsmann emphasized.

The requirement profile is clear. “If we get a player, he has to work straight away. However, we don’t have to sign a player and there’s no pressure from my side,” said Bayern Munich’s line manager.

The transfer window ends on January 31st.
