At the third training session in Beijing, the German national ice hockey team is finally complete. Latecomer Korbinian Holzer, who arrived in the Olympic Village on Saturday, was given the green light for the practice session on Sunday afternoon (local time) in the National Hallenstadion after a negative PCR test. After surviving a corona infection, the Mannheim native was not able to present the four negative tests required to travel to China with the team last Wednesday.
“Obviously I’m relieved to be able to get started with the lads right after my arrival,” said the defender. “Now we are finally complete and can continue to prepare for the start of the tournament,” added DEB sports director Christian Künast.
Marcel Brandt, Daniel Pietta and Stefan Loibl trained for the first time on Saturday. The trio had initially tested positive after arriving on Thursday, but the follow-up tests were then negative. The preliminary round begins for the German team on Thursday (2:10 p.m. CET) against Canada.
