Borussia Dortmund are reportedly planning to sign David Raum from TSG Hoffenheim this summer. But for that, sales candidate Raphael Guerreiro would first have to leave the district club. The problem: According to a recent media report, the Portuguese does not want to leave at all and has several reasons for an extension at BVB.
The planned DFB axis in defense at Borussia Dortmund is apparently a long way off. According to media reports, those responsible actually wanted to get left defender David Raum from TSG Hoffenheim after the two German internationals and central defenders Nico Schlotterbeck (came from SC Freiburg) and Niklas Süle (moved from FC Bayern to the Black and Yellows for free). But that will be more difficult than expected.
Because in Dortmund they were actually building on selling Raphael Guerreiro this summer. The contract of the Portuguese national player, who has recently been rather unstable in his performance, expires in mid-2023, the current transfer period would be the optimal time to sell in order to achieve a suitable transfer fee. This in turn could then be invested in space. From around 20 million euros, BVB would be willing to let Guerreiro go.
However, according to information from “Sport1”, he does not want to leave at all. The 28-year-old family man is said to feel at home in the Ruhr area. It is said that the defender does not want to tear his children out of their familiar surroundings.
He himself doesn’t seem to want to have to reposition himself in a different sporting position. He revealed that in an interview a few months ago.
BVB is (still) missing the money for David Raum
Therefore, a change is not in the sense of Guerreiro. On the contrary: the Portuguese, who has been playing for BVB since 2016, even imagines an extension.
So BVB is in a quandary: if you can’t persuade Guerreiro to say goodbye early, you don’t have the money to venture a move with David Raum.
At the same time, according to English media reports, several Premier League clubs are already interested in the meteoric climber of the past season, who switched from SpVgg Greuther Fürth to Hoffenheim last summer, immediately convinced and only signed his contract with TSG in early 2022 on improved terms until 2026 extended.
While Raum is said to have an exit clause of 35 million euros in the coming year, his fee for this transfer summer is freely negotiable. Without the Guerreiro millions and the salary saved, BVB should say goodbye to poker.
