After Sadio Mané’s acclaimed transfer of the king, Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß praised the work of sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
“Hasan was very busy during the summer break,” he said at the #neuland congress in Aachen. Even if the efforts of the German record champions are not yet over, he has the impression “that we are providing Julian Nagelsmann with a good team”.
The change of the Senegalese Mané from Liverpool FC to Munich had purely sporting reasons. “We’re not doing this to send out signals, we want to strengthen our team,” said Hoeneß. “When it became clear that something needed to be done, we were all excited.” There is “no one at Bayern Munich who doesn’t like the transfer”.
In addition to runners-up Borussia Dortmund, the 70-year-old sees Bayer Leverkusen and Leipzig as his main competitors for the championship. “I’ve always said that Dortmund were Bayern Munich’s biggest opponents and that will always be the case,” he said.
With a view to offensive star Serge Gnabry, who has still not extended his contract, which expires in 2023, Hoeneß tried to remain calm. “I know he has a very good offer from FC Bayern,” said Hoeneß: “Now it’s up to him to make a decision.”
