The European Handball Federation EHF has excluded the two-time Champions League winner RK Vardar Skopje from the European Cup for 2022/23.
This was decided by the executive committee of the association. According to the EHF, the reason for this is the lack of salary payments to the players.
In a period of “almost two years” they tried to solve the problem with the club, the message said. Discussions were held and deadlines were set, “unfortunately the club representatives were not able to meet them,” announced the EHF. The club only made partial payments.
As the North Macedonian champions, Skopje would have been eligible to compete in the Champions League again in the new season. In the past season, the club failed in the play-offs due to Telekom Veszprem from Hungary, who later took part in the final four.
