Gummersbach missed the Final Four of the DHB Cup

The once so glorious VfL Gummersbach narrowly missed entering the Final Four for the DHB Cup. The second division leaders lost in the quarter-finals to the handball Bundesliga club HC Erlangen after a big fight with 27:29 (16:12). Erlangen bought the ticket for the Final Four in Hamburg (April 23/24) for the first time.

At first it looked like a surprise. Five-time cup winners Gummersbach (last in 1985) led by four goals at the break. But at the beginning of the second half, the hosts lost a 17:14 lead (34th) and were 17:20 behind in the 40th minute. But Gummersbach didn’t give up and equalized again (26:26/53.). In the end, however, Erlangen had the better nerves.

On Sunday (6:00 p.m. / Sky) the German record champion THW Kiel will be a guest at the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. Two hours earlier, Bundesliga leaders SC Magdeburg received league competitor GWD Minden. The game of defending champion TBV Lemgo Lippe against MT Melsungen had to be postponed due to several corona cases among the guests.
