Ex-BVB professional Julian Weigl actually feels comfortable at Benfica Lisbon, but his time with the Portuguese record champions could end after two and a half years. The interest in the national player is obviously great.
Just a few weeks ago, Julian Weigl was associated with a return to the Bundesliga. The “Frankfurter Rundschau” reported that the midfielder is on Eintracht Frankfurt’s wish list. Since then, however, the rumors of a move to the Main have died down. At the same time, new speculations about Weigl’s future arose.
In the meantime, the two top Italian clubs AS Roma and AC Milan are also said to be trying to attract the former BVB professional. According to “Sport Bild”, the national player also has offers from other clubs. However, it is not known which clubs are involved.
Weigl himself should at least deal with the idea of changing the air. The 26-year-old has a tendency to change, reported “Sport Bild”. How concrete this idea is, however, can only be speculated.
Weigl becomes a top performer at Benfica
It is clear that Weigl has played his way back into international focus in the Benfica jersey in recent months. After a difficult start in Lisbon, the German has long since become a top performer who is actually indispensable for the team.
In addition, the Portuguese record champions signed a new German head coach in Roger Schmidt just a few weeks ago. He should do a lot to make Weigl his mouthpiece on the field, especially in the first few weeks.
It is still completely unclear how the top management of the “Adler” plans with Weigl. The German’s contract expires in the summer of 2024. Discussions about a possible extension have not yet taken place.
