Maximilian Götz will also drive for Madpanda Motorsport at the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring on the first weekend in August. As in Zandvoort, the reigning DTM champion will then share the cockpit with team owner Ezequiel Pérez Companc. Everything beyond that is still open.
“He’s a great person and immediately integrated into the team. He really feels at home here,” the Argentine told Motorsport-Total.com. “We have been extremely satisfied with him and he with us as well.”
“The information we gathered thanks to his experience at Zandvoort was very valuable,” continued the 28-year-old. “We’ve never had an AMG Performance driver in the team before, so that was very interesting for us.”
“He has a completely different view of the car. It’s very interesting to have someone in the team who has a different insight into the car and also how other teams work. That was all very valuable for us.”
Now implement what you have learned from Zandvoort
In addition to Götz, several AMG engineers joined the team to help Madpanda after a sluggish start to the season. These also stay on board. The idea now is to do another race with this team without having to get used to each other beforehand.
“We didn’t have a Thursday test in Zandvoort, just two free practice sessions on Friday and then qualifying and the race,” explains Pérez Companc. “Time was very limited there. At the Nürburgring we have a pre-test and more free practice sessions. We now know our driving styles and working methods. We already have a lot of good ideas for the Nürburgring.”
The first successes were already evident in Zandvoort. Pérez Companc finished fourth in qualifying on Saturday, albeit irregular due to the rain. However, he lost everything in the race because he continued to start on rain tires even after the red flag and was passed to the rear by the other cars on slicks within a very short time.
“Without the red flag, our strategy would have been very interesting,” believes the chief panda. “The track dried out too much during the break. But we’ve now analyzed the data from Zandvoort. We think the potential for a podium is there at the Nürburgring.”
For the other races, the second driver at Madpanda has not yet been determined. Pérez Companc will not have much time after the Nürburgring. At two weeks, the interval between the race in the Eifel and the Family & Friends Festival in Lausitz is the shortest break between two races in the 2022 German GT Championship season.
