Gladbach forces radical offensive upheaval

Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach missed their goals weeks before the end of the season. In the summer, a change will have to take place under Gladbach manager Roland Virkus, Max Eberl’s successor. A lot is likely to change in terms of personnel, especially in attack, and Alassane Pléa, who recently regained his strength, is about to say goodbye.

Midfielder Denis Zakaria was reluctantly monetized in the past winter transfer phase after the Swiss didn’t want to extend his expiring contract. Defense chief Matthias Ginter will leave Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer in the summer – the German international also decided against Gladbach’s offer.

The club from the Lower Rhine wants to avoid scenarios like this under Max Eberl’s successor Roland Virkus. In Yann Sommer, Ramy Bensebaini, Tony Jantschke, Jonas Hofmann, Christoph Kramer, Breel Embolo, Lars Stindl, Marcus Thuram and Alassane Pléa, there are nine established players in the Gladbach squad whose working papers end in 2023. There is also club icon Patrick Herrmann, whose contract is now due to expire in a few months.

Means: Either there will be an early extension or a separation after the current season. The foals simply cannot afford to go empty handed on the transfer market.

Radical cut: Thuram and Pléa about to say goodbye?

According to recent statements from Virkus, the club will soon start talks with some players about further cooperation. The manager did not name names. According to “kicker” there should be personnel changes in attack.

Marcus Thuram has been traded as a farewell candidate several times in the past. Due to his quota of one goal in 16 league games, a separation of the 24-year-old is obvious. According to the trade journal, Borussia would also break away from Alassane Pléa, who, after a significant improvement in form, has eight scorer points in 23 games and is one of the players in coach Adi Hütter’s squad, who is at least a few places behind the team in the table could lead above.

Eberl wanted to make money for the 28-year-old last summer, and now Pléa could attract new prospects with further good performances, it is said.
