German rugby men storm furiously to win the group

The German 7-a-side rugby national team secured group victory in the first of two European Championship tournaments.

The selection of the German Rugby Union also won their fourth group game with a comfortable 24-0 win over Italy in Lisbon on Sunday and will now face Spain in the fight for tournament victory.

On Saturday, the DRV team had already managed clear victories against fellow favorites France (35:7) as well as against Poland (40:5) and Lithuania (31:7).

The German women, on the other hand, only finished fourth in the group stage. On Sunday, captain Mette Zimmat’s team suffered their third bankruptcy in four games with a hefty 7:52 against Spain. Belgium is now waiting in the placement game.

Teams receive points based on tournament placement. The same procedure will also be used at the second and last tournament of the European Championship series in Kraków (July 1st to 3rd).

After the two rounds, the points are added up and the European champion is crowned. In 2019, Germany secured the men’s European title for the first time by beating Spain.
