Geisenberger draws level with Pechstein after gold

In Beijing, luger Natalie Geisenberger drew level with speed skater Claudia Pechstein by winning her fifth Olympic triumph after gold and could become the sole number one among German winter Olympic athletes this week.

Should Geisenberger also triumph with the team, as she did in Sochi in 2014 and in Pyeongchang in 2018, she would top the rankings with six gold medals and one bronze medal.

Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt (Berchtesgaden/Königssee) could also overtake Pechstein from Berlin. If they succeed in victories in the doubles and in the team, they would be like Geisenberger with a total of six gold medals, but they have not booked any further medals.

Pechstein, who is taking part in the Winter Games in China for the eighth time, is just ahead of Geisenberger with five gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals.
