Fortuna coach probably fired – Thioune as successor?

Second division soccer team Fortuna Düsseldorf separates from coach Christian Preusser in acute danger of relegation. This was initially reported by the “Düsseldorfer Express” on Monday evening, and the “Rheinische Post” followed suit shortly afterwards.

Both media name the former HSV coach Daniel Thioune as the successor. There was no confirmation from the club at first, according to reports it should take place on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the traditional Rhenish club lost 1-0 to Holstein Kiel with a goal in added time. It was the fourth loss in a row without a goal. According to “RP”, Christian Weber from his own scouting department should also replace the recently dismissed sports director Uwe Klein.

Preusser had signed a contract with Fortuna that ran until June 30, 2023. Born in Berlin, he had successfully looked after the U23s of Bundesliga club SC Freiburg for the past five years. At the beginning of the season, Fortuna surprisingly gave him their trust as head coach. In the next game next Sunday (1:30 p.m.), the Rhinelanders will host Schalke 04, who have been relegated to the Bundesliga.
