Formula 1 | Vettel team names presentation date for AMR22

Aston Martin is the first Formula 1 team to officially announce its plans for the launch of its new car for the 2022 season. On Friday morning, the racing team confirmed that the racing car called AMR22 will be presented on February 10th at the manufacturer’s headquarters in Gaydon.

Apart from Aston Martin, so far only Ferrari has announced that it will unveil its 2022 car between February 16 and 18, but has not yet announced an exact date.

The new cars are eagerly awaited, as they have been created as part of the revised technical regulations for the coming season and have a completely new design. A prototype was on display at Silverstone in 2021.

Pre-season testing of the new Formula 1 cars begins on February 23 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. The teams will test for a total of six days before the first race of the season takes place in Bahrain on March 20th.

Aston Martin hopes to make amends

Aston Martin will look to the 2022 season to bounce back from a disappointing season last year that saw the company fall to seventh in the constructors’ standings. The former Racing Point team was hit hard by the reduction in downforce, losing to the midfield competition.

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel achieved a podium finish in his first season with Aston Martin: second place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Teammate Lance Stroll finished sixth in Qatar and ended the year nine points adrift of Vettel in the standings.

Aston Martin gets new team boss

The biggest change for the team over the winter was the departure of team boss Otmar Szafnauer, who has been heavily linked with a move to Alpine.

Aston Martin announced at the time of the split earlier this month that the team would be managed within the executive team pending the appointment of a successor.

In 2021, Aston Martin attracted attention with a memorable presentation of its Formula 1 car. James Bond star Daniel Craig, former Bond girl Gemma Arterton and seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady were in attendance. Details of this year’s launch are not yet known.
