Ferrari would like to further reduce the gap to the top in Formula 1. However, the Italians will probably tackle this project without their former boss Jean Todt.
Last season Ferrari was able to restore its reputation in Formula 1. After all, the Scuderia improved in the team ranking from the shockingly weak sixth place in 2020 to a respectable third position. This year, the traditional racing team would like to take the next step and compete for victories again.
Ferrari experienced its most successful years under the direction of Jean Todt. Between 1993 and 2008, the Frenchman worked as a team boss for the Italians and once celebrated five driver’s titles (2000-2004) in a row with Michael Schumacher. Most recently, Todt served as President of the FIA.
Actually, the 75-year-old should now join Ferrari as a consultant. But according to “Sport Bild” there will be no return. There was already lively speculation within Formula 1 about a renewed collaboration between Todt and Ferrari. However, the Scuderia adjusted the organizational structure in January, which apparently means that there is no longer any room for Todt.
Formula 1: Ferrari wants to go back to the top
Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto could have imagined a commitment from Schumacher’s confidant. “I worked with Jean Todt and learned a lot from him. It was an honor. I would say that it would be an honor for me in the future too,” said the 52-year-old when asked about the rumours. However, Binotto will probably have to do without Todt in the background.
In the upcoming Formula 1 season, Ferrari is again a candidate for victories. In particular, the rule changes regarding aerodynamics should be an advantage from the point of view of the Italian team. The winter test drives in Barcelona will provide the first answers.
