A lot of work, little sleep and a lot of new knowledge: Red Bull team boss Christian Horner revealed what’s going on in the workshop in Milton Keynes these days. The Briton explained when Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will be able to admire his new company car in all its glory for the first time.
When exactly Red Bull will let down its pants and present its new car, which will be called the RB18, to the public is still not certain. Team boss Christian Horner revealed in an interview with the “racingnews365” portal what’s going on behind the scenes at the Red Bulls these days.
“This is the time of year when everything gets a bit stressful,” said Horner, who spoke of “many, long hours of work and new insights”. A lot of hard work is currently being put into the RB18: “And it’s taking shape.” The team boss was satisfied with the progress: “It [das Auto] has met most of our goals so far.”
The team is working incredibly hard and everything is slowly coming together, added the Briton, who at the same time revealed that the assembly of the individual parts is imminent: “We will start building the car next week.”
Horner reveals: Red Bull plans shakedown before testing
The team boss also already revealed what the plan looks like after the completion of the new car. Accordingly, Red Bull will complete a shakedown before the first test drives in Barcelona at the end of February this year. The team can cover a total of 100 kilometers on tires provided by Pirelli over two days.
These first test kilometers are not only used by the team for filming, but also in the search for early teething problems, which in the worst case could lead to major problems during the test drives.
“With a new car, three days per driver isn’t much, it’s very intensive,” Horner believes, both drivers will benefit from the shakedown kilometers as well, since the time for the official tests is very limited.
According to Horner, surprises during the test drives could well be the order of the day: “Especially with such major changes in the regulations, there will be some winners and losers.” You could see some results that weren’t expected in advance, said the team boss.
