Formula 1 | Desert rants on the radio: Red Bull organizes psychologists for Tsunoda

AlphaTauri pilot Yuki Tsunoda has repeatedly been noticed in the past by freaking out on the radio. His race engineer in particular felt the frustration of the Japanese, so Red Bull has now organized a psychologist for Tsunoda, as Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko announced on “ServusTV”.

“Thank God our Max is calm,” says Marko. “Our problem child is Tsunoda. He explodes on the radio, you think that doesn’t exist.”

Although the AlphaTauri driver has improved somewhat this season, Red Bull still saw a need to catch up.

“We have organized a kind of psychologist to work with him, because he continued to complain in the curves. So that inhibits performance,” explains Red Bull’s motorsport consultant.

Marko also advocates restricting radio communication between the driver and the race engineer, since it is currently “partly like in driving school”: “You could limit it so that it only goes in one direction, that you only let the driver do it, but not him get technical support.”

“Well, Hamilton, who has his hand on the radio, then says to him: ‘You lose five meters in turn ten when braking and in turn three the other driver drives in a little more slowly, but better out.’ So a driver gets all this information and that makes it easier for him.”
