It’s just a short excerpt from a Mercedes video. But after the recent rumors of Lewis Hamilton’s resignation, it is the record world champion’s first appearance on social media in 2022. Along with his new teammate George Russell, Hamilton sends New Year’s greetings to China in the video.
“Hello everyone, I wish you a happy Chinese New Year. May the new year bring you happiness and everything you wish for,” said Hamilton, who in the said video for the largest Chinese holiday in official Mercedes team clothing and presented with a new short hairstyle.
It is Hamilton’s first appearance on social media in 2022. He has not posted on his own channels since December 11th, the day of qualifying in Abu Dhabi, Mercedes posted the last Hamilton video on December 21st after celebrating winning the Constructors’ Championship in Brackley.
Because of the radio silence and because Hamilton was neither present at the test drives in Abu Dhabi after the season finale nor at the FIA world champion gala in Paris at the end of last year, rumors arose that the record world champion could resign from Formula 1 after the controversial 2021 season finale.
The current video is at least evidence that Hamilton is still part of the Mercedes team. And it could be a clue to what most experts believe anyway: that the record world champion will also be on the starting lineup in 2022.
