Former FC Bayern star becomes a lifesaver

After some initial difficulties, James Rodriguez, who once played for AS Monaco, Real Madrid and FC Bayern, among others, has now really gained momentum in his footballing adventure with the Qatari club Al-Rayyan. Most recently, however, the Colombian shone with an action that puts his footballing skills in the shade anyway.

In Al-Rayyan’s 3-0 win over Al-Wakrah, James Rodríguez not only scored two goals and set up the third, the attacking player also became a lifesaver.

After Al-Wakrah’s Ousmane Coulibaly suddenly collapsed on the pitch, Rodríguez didn’t hesitate for a second, realizing the seriousness of the situation and administering first aid before doctors even got to the player. James positioned his opponent’s head so his airway was clear. Coulibaly had suffered a heart attack.

Al Wakrah’s team doctor Mukhtar Shabaan took to Twitter to stress the importance of Rodríguez’s intervention.

James Rodríguez convinces after initial difficulties

Rodríguez played on loan for FC Bayern between 2017 and 2019, who, after 67 competitive games, 15 goals and 20 assists, did not decide to take the quite considerable purchase option for the South American. Rodríguez returned to Real Madrid, experienced a disappointing season and eventually moved first to Everton FC and surprisingly to Qatar in the summer of 2021.

After a short period of familiarization, the Colombian international delivers what one might have expected from him in the desert state. In seven games he scored three goals and prepared four more goals. The game against Al-Wakrah has been his highlight so far in more ways than one.

Despite the top star, Al-Rayyan is only eighth in the table.
