Finally spare parts for Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo has enough spare parts at the track from this week’s race in Silverstone to be able to drive with new parts as early as Friday. Up to now, the training mostly had to start with older specifications, which on the one hand were not that representative and on the other hand caused some reliability problems.

That was because Alfa Romeo didn’t have enough spare parts at the track and didn’t want to risk being left without new components for the rest of the weekend following a possible accident. In the meantime, however, this problem has been solved, so that Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou can also ride with new parts in practice.

“From the next race we will be able to race the whole weekend with the same package and then everything will be easier,” announces senior race engineer Xevi Pujolar.

According to him, some incidents at the beginning of the season meant that resources in the factory had to be diverted. “Then you have to catch up with the production of spare parts for the packs that we’re using, while also ramping up production of the new packs, which was a limitation,” he says. “Now, from Silverstone, we’re already in a good position.”

With Silverstone, there is also a classic race track on the program again, after three tracks where the walls are a little closer in Monaco, Baku and Montreal. That’s another reason why they didn’t want to take any risks there: “We wanted to make sure that we didn’t suffer any consequences if we were injured on Friday,” said Pujolar.

Alfa Romeo sixth in the Constructors’ Championship

Alfa Romeo is currently sixth in the Constructors’ Championship with 51 points but believes they can be in the front midfield at Silverstone behind Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes.

“I don’t know if some teams will bring some upgrades to Silverstone, but so far I’d say we’ve been pretty consistent at all tracks,” says Pujolar. “For the next few races we expect to battle it out with Alpine and McLaren at the top of the midfield and see if we can get a few more points, double it. That’s our goal.”

“We’re in a position where we want to be in Q3 with both cars and if that’s the case then we can have solid racing against Alpine first.”
