The world football association FIFA received a further compensation payment of 92 million dollars (approx. 88 million euros) as a victim of the corruption in world football that was uncovered in 2015. This was announced by the US Department of Justice on Thursday.
It is the second payment to the world association after 32.3 million dollars were due last year. In total, the compensation payments should amount to 201 million dollars (approx. 192 million euros). According to FIFA, they should finance projects with a positive impact on the community.
In 2021, the American judiciary classified FIFA as well as the continental associations CONCACAF in North and Central America and CONMEBOL in South America as victims of the corruption scandal. In the course of the investigations launched in 2015, numerous officials were convicted and arrested. The scandal also led to the resignation of then FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
