FIFA President Infantino now resides in Qatar

According to a media report, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has moved the center of his life to the World Cup host country Qatar. As the Swiss newspaper “SonntagsBlick” reports, the head of the World Football Association has been “mainly” living in the Qatari capital Doha since October.

Accordingly, FIFA confirmed that Infantino had rented a house there and that his family had recently moved to Qatar. According to SID information, the 51-year-old’s main residence is still in Switzerland, where he continues to meet his tax obligations.

Infantino had informed the FIFA Council last October that he would “follow the World Cup more closely and carry out his presidential duties not only in Zurich but also from Doha and other locations around the world”. The FIFA Congress is scheduled for March 31 in Doha and the World Cup group draw on April 1.

Qatar has been criticized for human rights violations since the controversial awarding of the World Cup (November 21 to December 18) in December 2010. Thousands of foreign workers are said to have died on the construction sites in the emirate.
