FC Schalke 04 released two loan returnees

In the past few weeks, FC Schalke 04 have already made their squad suitable for the Bundesliga with several new signings. Now there seems to be movement among the prank candidates as well.

As “Sky” reports, two Royal Blue professionals are about to say goodbye. Levent Mercan and Hamza Mendyl were released for transfer talks with other clubs. There is a concrete interest for both of them, so that a change seems to be only a matter of time.

According to the report, Mercan is currently negotiating with Kardemir Karabükspor from Turkey’s third division. Mendyl meanwhile stands before a transfer to the Belgian first division club OH Leuven.

The duo was no longer in Gelsenkirchen last season. Schalke had loaned out Mercan (Karagümrük) and Mendyl (Gaziantep FK) after relegation to the Bundesliga to save on salary costs.

It was clear early on that the players would have no future with the Knappen even after they were promoted again.

The “kicker” had already reported at the end of May that Mercan and Mendyl should definitely leave the club in the summer. There were also other loan players on the cross-off list published by the specialist magazine.

Top earners at FC Schalke 04 still on the hit list

At that time it was said that Can Bozdogan, Dries Wouters, Timo Becker and Rabbi Matondo should also go. There are also Amine Harit and Ozan Kabak, for whom S04 is desperately looking for buyers, according to “Sky”.

The “Bild” recently reported that Schalke could lose millions with the loan players if there were no signs of a separation soon. After all, the Bundesliga club has to pay the salaries of the professionals in full again from July 1st. Matondo, Harit and Kabak alone would add up to 900,000 euros a month.

On Monday it was said in the “WAZ” that Harit and Kabak were therefore not asked to train at the start of the week. Instead, the duo should primarily deal with the club search. Schalke hopes for the highest transfer fees from the top earners.
