After the dismissal of Dimitrios Grammozis, FC Schalke 04 is once again looking forward to a fresh start in the coaching position. According to reporter legend Marcel Reif, the problems with the royal blues are of a fundamental nature.
Already eight defeats in 25 games this season in the 2nd Bundesliga, now six points behind third place: Direct re-promotion at FC Schalke 04 with nine games to go is by no means a sure-fire success.
So it’s no wonder that coach Dimitrios Grammozis had to resign after the surprising 3:4 defeat against the basement child Hansa Rostock. According to Marcel Reif, the development was foreseeable.
“Grammozis has had to deal with a complete upheaval. The environment is notoriously feverish and overheated, with claims that have lost touch with reality for many years. This has always been difficult terrain for coaches,” the reporter- Legend in the “Bild” program “Reif ist live”. “At Schalke, people always wanted more than was actually possible, and much too quickly. Decisions were then often made that went in the wrong direction.”
FC Schalke 04 “in a trap”
Ultimately, this also applies to the commitment of Grammozis, who took over the position of the dismissed Christian Gross at Schalke almost exactly a year ago. However, the 43-year-old ex-professional could not prevent relegation from the Bundesliga, nor could extreme performance fluctuations in the current season.
That’s why Grammozis has long been extremely controversial among S04 fans. Sports director Rouven Schröder, who was only hired after him, was no longer behind the coach – because his time for development work with the miners was limited by the sporting objectives.
“I had the impression with Grammozis and Schröder that they knew that they had to put their work forward. They had to build a squad without big names, without doing nonsense, also economically. But unfortunately it says: We have to move up. And if that doesn’t work, you’re in a trap you can’t get out of,” analyzed Reif.
