Second division soccer team FC Schalke 04 will probably lend defender Timo Becker. This was announced by head coach Dimitrios Grammozis on Friday.
Timo Becker has had a very difficult time under Dimitrios Grammozis this season. The right-back has only been used five times in the 2nd Bundesliga and so far has not been able to start. The native of Herten had to play far more often with the second team in the Regionalliga West.
The development is particularly surprising because Becker was still part of the extended permanent staff of the miners in the last Schalke relegation season. After taking office, Grammozis also initially trusted the 24-year-old, who had already played for the Royal Blues as a junior and later recommended himself for a professional contract via the Rot-Weiss Essen stopover.
FC Schalke 04 has already strengthened the defense
Now the chapter on Schalke seems to be coming to an end for the time being. “Timo Becker is in talks on loan with another club,” revealed the head coach on Friday at the press conference before the league game against Holstein Kiel (1:30 p.m.). Grammozis explained: “We explained the situation to him. He’s a bit behind at the moment. We’ll have to wait and see how the talks go.”
The German-Greek hopes that the loan deal will be a step in the development of the defender. “In the past you’ve often seen examples where things didn’t go so well in the home club, but then a switch was flipped. You get out of your oasis of well-being a little.”
The competition in Schalke’s defense is enormous. In the first half of the season, loan players Ko Itakura as well as Marcin Kaminski and Malick Thiaw were set in the back three. In addition, S04 signed the Norwegians Marius Lode and Andreas Vindheim, who was loaned out by Sparta Prague, for defence.
