After Andreas Vindheim’s loan, FC Schalke 04 confirmed their second winter signing on Friday. Again the new one comes from Norway.
Central defender Marius Lode is moving from Norwegian first division side FK Bodö/Glimt to FC Schalke 04. The Knappen announced this on Friday. The 28-year-old moves from his home country to the Ruhr area on a free transfer. The defender has signed a contract in Gelsenkirchen until the end of June 2024.
“Marius Lode can hold all three positions in the defensive back three,” Schalke’s sporting director Rouven Schröder is quoted as saying on the Royal Blues’ website. “As a regular and top performer, he has played a major role in the national and international successes of FK Bodö/Glimt in recent years and became a Norwegian national team player. Marius is ready to play straight away and is expanding our options in central defence. We are delighted that he will from now on part of our team.”
“Switching to Schalke 04 is a great step”
Opposite to “schalke04.de” the newcomer also spoke up: “For me, the move to Schalke 04 is a great step that I immediately wanted to take. It’s my first stop abroad and then at such a big club, I’m really looking forward to it. I had very nice and successful years at Bodö/Glimt, now I want to build on that at Schalke,” said Lode.
Lode was a regular at the reigning Norwegian champions. In total, the Norwegian international played over 250 competitive games, and in 2021/22 alone he was on the pitch in 14 international club games.
So at Schalke you can look forward to a player who is also quite experienced internationally and who increases the options on the defensive again. With Ko Itakura, Malick Thiaw, Marcin Kaminski, Salif Sané, Henning Matriciani and Timo Becker, there are already some central defenders in the squad, but Becker is a candidate for a farewell.
