Winger Alphonso Davies has been missing from FC Bayern for weeks. The left-back of the record champion is suffering from the consequences of a corona infection. Now the Canadian has spoken up.
The 21-year-old winger suffers from a corona infection with “slight heart muscle inflammation”, as coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed before the Bundesliga away game at 1. FC Köln (4-0).
A little later, Davies thanked Instagram for the many wishes for recovery: “Thank you all for so much love and support.” In addition, the exceptional performer was confident that he would soon be back in the hunt for points with his teammates: “I can hardly wait to be on the pitch and do what I love.”
One day after the clear victory in the top game against 1. FC Köln, his teammate Thomas Müller reacted on Twitter: “Come back quickly, Phonzy! Get well soon!”
According to his coach, Alphonso Davies will be out for several weeks. He was “unavailable for an indefinite period,” said Nagelsmann, who at the same time gave the all-clear: “It’s not that dramatic, but it has to heal, it takes a while.”
Summer newcomer Marcel Sabitzer acted for Alphonso Davies again on the left side of defence, the Austrian actually feels at home in central midfield.
FC Bayern was hit by another wave of corona during the short winter break, nine professionals returned with infections and had to go into isolation. Captain Manuel Neuer, Corentin Tolisso, Leroy Sané and Tanguy Nianzou were able to celebrate their comeback against Cologne and successfully keep the pursuers Borussia Dortmund at a distance. In addition, central defender Dayot Upamecano was back in the FC Bayern squad, who still have a six-point lead over BVB.
