Favre club OGC Nice apparently attracts Yann Sommer

In poker for goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Borussia Mönchengladbach, apparently OGC Nice – the club of ex-Gladbach coach Lucien Favre – is serious.

As the “RTL France” journalist Fabrice Hawkins reported on Twitter, Nice and Sommer have reached an oral agreement. Accordingly, there will be talks between those responsible for Gladbach and those of the French club in the coming days. It could already be about the change modalities.

The main actor in the campaign for summer should be OGC coach Lucien Favre of all people. In the 2014/2015 season, the two Swiss worked together at Gladbach.

Will Gladbach extend with Yann Sommer?

Favre only took over the coaching post in Nice at the end of June. The 64-year-old had already worked there between 2016 and 2018.

Sommer’s contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach is only dated until 2023. Therefore, the club from the Lower Rhine could collect a higher transfer fee for the 33-year-old for the last time in this transfer period.

Sports director Roland Virkus recently emphasized that he “definitely wanted to extend” the working paper of the undisputed number one.

Summer nourishes hopes of Gladbach whereabouts

Sommer himself recently nurtured hopes of staying by praising coach Daniel Farke’s commitment.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about him from players who have worked with him or played in the same league. I think it was a very good decision for us to hire him as our new coach,” said the goalkeeper Gladbach club homepage quoted.

Nevertheless, the rumors of transfers do not stop. Most recently, Sommer was also traded at Nice competitor Stade Rennes. The club from Brittany is already in talks with those responsible for Gladbach, it said. However, the negotiations have not yet progressed very far.
