During his two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, Reinier was rarely able to hint at his qualities. After returning from BVB, his home club Real Madrid now apparently wants to lend the Brazilian again.
As the Spanish “Marca” reports, the 20-year-old is about to move to top Portuguese club Benfica. The variable offensive player should be loaned to the club from Lisbon, a purchase option is not under discussion.
Reinier’s father confirmed the speculation to the Portuguese newspaper “Record”. “My son is thrilled. When a club the size of Benfica wants you, it’s impossible not to be happy,” said Mauro Brasilia.
Previously, several Portuguese newspapers had rumored about a possible engagement of the real talent at Benfica.
The Brazilian junior international switched from Flamengo to Los Blancos in 2020 for 30 million euros. The reigning Spanish champions loaned the youngster to Dortmund for two years after just six months.
Reinier at BVB usually only jokers
There he never really got beyond the role of follower. In the last two seasons Reinier played 27 Bundesliga games, but in 25 of them he only came off the bench. The bottom line was only one goal for the supposed top talent.
Nevertheless, Reinier stayed with BVB for the entire loan period, although according to media reports he had several opportunities to end the interlude early. In winter, for example, a move to his homeland fell through.
According to “UOL Esporte”, Reinier could have gained match practice at Flamengo Rio de Janeiro. It was said that his former employer tried to get his prodigal son back temporarily.
At Real, meanwhile, they still seem to believe in being right-footed and hope that Reinier will use his potential at the next loan station.
