Ernesto Valverde will coach Athletic Bilbao for the third time. The Basques announced this.
The 58-year-old, who last coached FC Barcelona from the summer of 2017 to January 2020 and was put on leave there in first place, has a long history at Athletic.
He stormed there from 1990 to 1996, was youth coach for six years from 1997 and from his first terms of office from 2003 to 2005 and 2013 to 2017 is the record coach both in terms of appearances in the league and in the European Cup.
The 2005 Supercup victory was the KClub’s first title in 31 years. In the past season, Athletic just missed out on the European Cup ranks in eighth place.
