EM | Subsequent against Poland in the DHB squad

The subsequently nominated Hendrik Wagner will move into the DHB squad in the last European Championship group game of the German handball team against Poland this Tuesday (6:00 p.m. / ZDF). “He will definitely be there,” said national coach Alfred Gislason.

The 24-year-old backcourt player from the second division club Eulen Ludwigshafen had previously been brought to Bratislava to replace Julius Kühn, who was in quarantine due to a positive corona test.

“Hendrik was there for the internationals against Portugal in November and has a good idea of what we’re playing,” said Gislason. “He’s a throwing type of player similar to Julius and can also stand in defence.”

The national coach also indicated that Andreas Wolff could start in goal for the first time at this tournament. “We’ll decide that after training, but of course Andi knows the Poles extremely well. There’s a lot to be said for him,” said Gislason.

The 30-year-old keeper has been playing for top Polish club Vive Kielce since 2020. In the first two European Championship games against Belarus (33:29) and Austria (34:29), European Championship newcomer Till Klimpke was in the German starting line-up.
