Eisbären Berlin sign NHL defender Guhle

German ice hockey champions Eisbären Berlin have signed NHL defender Brendan Guhle for the new season.

The 24-year-old Canadian is set to replace international Kai Wissmann, who has signed with the Boston Bruins after a strong performance at the World Cup in Finland. Guhle played 65 games in the NHL for the Buffalo Sabers and Anaheim Ducks.

“Brendan is an excellent skater and a top quality defender,” said sporting director Stephane Richer.

Guhle receives the tenth foreigner’s license from the polar bears, nine may be used per game. “But last season also showed that a deep squad is very important,” said Richer.
