Eintracht Frankfurt bags Onguéné deal

The plans for the coming season are already in full swing at Eintracht Frankfurt. The SBU should now agree with central defender Jérôme Onguéné from RB Salzburg.

As “” reported, Onguéné signs a five-year contract with the Hessen. The official announcement of the deal is to be announced after the Africa Cup, where the 24-year-old is currently staying with the Cameroonian national team.

The “Bild” had previously written that Onguéné was at the top of Eintracht Frankfurt’s transfer list.

The defender’s contract with the Austrian series champions expires at the end of the season, so he would be available on a free transfer.

For Onguéné, a move to the Bundesliga would be the second attempt in Germany. In the 2017/2018 season, the 1.87 meter tall right-footed player was under contract with VfB Stuttgart. However, he was denied a breakthrough in Swabia.

Onguéné spent the last second half of the season on loan at FC Genoa in the Italian Serie A. In 2021/2022, the sought-after defensive player has played 17 competitive games for Salzburg, including five games in the Champions League group stage.

In the courtship of the defender, the SBU has probably outdone league competitor VfL Wolfsburg. At the Lower Saxony, Onguéné should follow in the footsteps of Maxence Lacroix, whose contract, according to media reports, contains a release clause of 40 million euros.

Onguéné with Cameroon in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup

Onguéné is currently with the Cameroonian national team at the Africa Cup. The team led by Munich-based Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting beat Ethiopia 4-1 (1-1) at the start of the second matchday of the preliminary round after falling behind and celebrated their second win.

The double packer Karl Toko Ekambi (8th/67th) and Vincent Aboubakar (53rd/55th), who had already scored twice in the opening game, ensured the Cameroonians’ sovereign victory in the end. Striker Dawa Hotessa (4th) initially surprisingly put the underdog in the lead.
