The German 7-a-side rugby team got off to a perfect start in the first of two European Championship tournaments. The selection of the German Rugby Association (DRV) won their first three group games in Lisbon on Saturday and can make the group victory perfect on Sunday.
The DRV team achieved clear victories against fellow favorites France (35:7) and Poland (40:5), before the Wolfpack also clearly prevailed against Lithuania in the late afternoon (31:7). The last group game against Italy is on Sunday (11.06 a.m.), followed by the cross-group placement game in the afternoon.
At the end there is a points system, in which the teams receive points depending on their tournament placement. The same procedure will also be used at the second and last tournament of the European Championship series in Kraków (July 1st to 3rd). After the two rounds, the points are added up and the European champion is crowned. Germany won the men’s European championship for the first time in 2019 by beating Spain.
