Loan player Elvis Rexhbecaj was one of the top performers at VfL Bochum in the past Bundesliga season. Now the midfielder from VfL Wolfsburg has apparently aroused the interest of FC Schalke 04.
According to “Sky” reporter Dirk Grosse Schlarmann, Rexhbecaj is an “interesting personality” for the Royal Blues. Schalke have often dealt with the 24-year-old in the past. However, the efforts have not (so far) been concrete.
Although the interest is currently “not red hot”, advertising could definitely “warm up again” in the coming days.
Rexhbecaj has worn a VfL Wolfsburg jersey since 2010. In the 2020/2021 season he was loaned to 1. FC Köln and last season to VfL Bochum.
After the two loan deals, Rexhbecaj will return to Wolfsburg in the summer. His contract with the Autostadt runs until the end of June 2023.
The attacking midfielder probably doesn’t have a future. As the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung” reports, the new coach Niko Kovac has no use for Rexhbecaj. Therefore, the ex-Bayern coach is planning without the returnee.
If a club were to approach VfL Wolfsburg, no obstacles would be put in the player’s way, the newspaper said. However, no club has yet registered an interest with the Wolves.
According to the “WAZ”, a return to VfL Bochum is out of the question. The overall package of fixed transfer fee and salary is simply too high.
Rexhbecaj was also traded at Werder Bremen
Rexhbecaj played 36 competitive games for VfL Bochum last season. He was almost always in the starting XI.
Most recently, Rexhbecaj was also traded at Werder Bremen. With the commitment of Jens Stage, who comes from FC Copenhagen, the North Germans have probably closed the position in midfield.
