Dimitrios Grammozis reacts after mistakes by Ralf Fährmann

In the 2-2 friendly against 1. FC Köln on Thursday, Ralf Fährmann put in a poor performance in goal for FC Schalke 04. Coach Dimitrios Grammozis commented on the performance of his regular number two after the game.

Ralf Fährmann actually wanted to use his FC Schalke 04’s friendly appearance at 1. FC Köln to advertise for himself. From the point of view of the 33-year-old goalkeeper, that would have been sorely needed, as he lost his regular place between the posts of the Royal Blues to Martin Fraisl in the first half of the season.

But the Cologne game was a disaster for ferryman. After Schalke’s opening goal by Marius Bülter (10′), the experienced keeper made a bad mistake following a back pass from team-mate Henning Matriciani and served FC striker Anthony Modeste the 1-1 on a silver platter (27′).

FC Schalke 04: Ralf Fährmann also unhappy with the second goal conceded

At least the ferryman looked unhappy when he conceded the second goal. Marius Lode was unable to properly process a direct pass from the goalkeeper at the edge of the penalty area. Cologne’s Florian Kainz conquered the ball, served Sebastian Andersson and he made it 2-1 (46th). Marvin Pieringer managed to equalize later (72′).

Naturally, Dimitrios Grammozis did not allow himself to be elicited public criticism or even a settlement with the ferryman after the draw with the Domstadters.

“We don’t need to talk about the first goal we conceded. But things like that happen. Ralle knows himself that he has to hit the ball straight away,” commented the S04 coach of Fährmann’s fat buck before Modeste’s goal.

No goalkeeper change at FC Schalke 04 conceivable

For the second Cologne goal, Grammozis did not see the fault of the ferryman: “Ralle plays a good ball on Lode, but he underestimates the speed of the ball. If he runs two or three steps before he gets the pass, he is in an open position and doesn’t get the ball in the back.”

One thing is clear: If nothing happens to Fraisl, he will also be in goal for FC Schalke 04 in the second division game against Jahn Regensburg (February 5).

Ralf Fährmann currently has no arguments that things could turn out differently.
