Coach Christian Streich from SC Freiburg finds the idea of football world champion Bastian Schweinsteiger “super”, who wants a final in the DFB Cup between Breisgau and Union Berlin.
“That would be indescribable,” said Streich on Friday. Union Berlin is winning every game anyway. “They don’t know how to lose anyway,” he said. “Therefore it may well be that they make it to the final.” That would not please Berlin’s local rivals Hertha BSC, whose home stadium is the Olympiastadion, where the final will take place on May 21st. “But that’s just the way it is in sport.”
It was also “very nice that he thinks of me,” explained Streich. He meant Schweinsteiger’s statement as an ARD expert, “that Mr. Streich would have deserved to be in such a big game.” Freiburg have never reached the final in the DFB Cup.
First of all, however, in view of the Corona situation, Streich wishes that the sports club could play in a full stadium again in a home game in the quarter-finals at the beginning of March – or instead in St. Pauli in a full arena.
In addition to defending champion Borussia Dortmund, other big clubs such as Mönchengladbach or the previously eliminated record champions FC Bayern are no longer there after the round of 16. Instead, in addition to FC St. Pauli, there are three other second division teams in the quarter-finals. Freiburg advanced 4-1 in Hoffenheim.
