Coach Bo Svensson from the Bundesliga soccer team FSV Mainz 05 has the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup firmly in his sights.
“The cup is a great competition. You can go a long way with just a few games. We definitely want to go through to the next round,” said the Dane ahead of Tuesday’s round of 16 at VfL Bochum.
After the home win on Saturday in the league against the upcoming opponent (1-0), Svensson wants to follow suit. “We take this competition very seriously. The boys want more,” said the Mainz coach, emphasizing: “It would be a big deal if we finished in the last eight.” However, Bochum is “a very good home team”.
Svensson left it open whether the club would react to the uncertain downtime of the two attackers Ádám Szalai and Marcus Ingvartsen in the winter on the transfer market.
“We have question marks with both of them as to when we’ll have them available again. Of course you have to think about it, but we don’t take action,” said the 42-year-old: “We have to see how we approach the second half of the season in terms of the offensive .”
