Corona outbreak in the German national team – game against France canceled

After a corona outbreak in their own ranks, Germany’s water polo players have to wait for the first international match of the post-Olympic season.

The world league game against France planned for Tuesday in Berlin was canceled on Saturday by the world swimming association FINA after “massive” corona problems on the German side. This further delays the premiere of the new national coach Petar Porobic, the Montenegrin has also tested positive anyway.

Great concerns among the German water polo players

“We regret the short-term postponement. However, the most important thing for us is the health of the players and everyone involved,” said Christian Hansmann, competitive sports director of the German Swimming Association (DSV). There were major concerns on the part of the team: “We thank FINA and the French federation for taking these concerns seriously and for complying with the request for a postponement.”

The game is to be rescheduled at a date to be determined before the World League’s European final, which takes place from April 28-30. Another group game of the German team against runner-up Spain is scheduled for March 5th.
