Indoor world record holder Christian Coleman has made an impressive comeback after an 18-month ban. At the traditional indoor meeting of the Millrose Games in New York, the American sprinter won over 60 m in 6.49 seconds. His world record is 6.34 seconds. Coleman crossed the finish line ahead of his compatriots Trayvon Bromell (6.50) and Ronnie Baker (6.54). World 200m champion Noah Lyles was fourth (6.62).
“I wouldn’t say I wasn’t nervous. I was definitely tense,” Coleman said afterwards. Nevertheless, he was “well prepared” and “ready to get started”. For Coleman, it was the first major event since February 2020 and his subsequent penalty.
Coleman had previously been banned for three “notification violations.” The 25-year-old had not been available to the anti-doping investigators for unannounced tests as it should have been. This cost Coleman, among other things, his Olympic participation in Tokyo last summer, even though the Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS reduced Coleman’s suspension from 24 to 18 months in an appeal.
