CHIO Aachen: Michael Jung takes the lead in eventing

The three-time Olympic champion Michael Jung took the lead at the CHIO in Aachen at the start of the eventing. In the first sub-discipline, dressage, Jung and his 14-year-old gelding Chipmunk controlled the competition with an excellent 22.20 points. William Coleman (USA), overall winner in Aachen last year, is already clearly behind Jung with Chin Tonic.

The rest of the German team had to place themselves a little further back. Eighth is ex-world champion Sandra Auffarth with Viamant du Matz. For the reigning European champion Ingrid Klimke with Siena just do it and Tokyo Olympic champion Julia Krajewski with her gold horse Amande de B’Neville, it was only enough for eleventh and twelve places.

In contrast to international championships, jumping is also on the program in Aachen on the first day before the decision is made in the cross-country on Saturday. Cross-country riding is usually the second sub-discipline.
