Change from Roman Bürki allegedly failed

Borussia Dortmund has been looking for a buyer for the former regular keeper Roman Bürki for months. A transfer from BVB to Galatasaray is apparently not going to happen after all.

For a long time it seemed like Borussia Dortmund would be able to get rid of its former number 1 Roman Bürki in Istanbul. But the deal between BVB and Galatasaray has probably failed.

As “Blick” reporter Andreas Böni reports, the transfer is now off the table. Previously, several Turkish media wanted to know about an agreement.

Galatasaray President Burak Elmas had confirmed the negotiations with BVB in a telephone survey by club members. “We largely agree with Bürki. There is a possibility that he will arrive on Sunday. It is on loan and there is an option to buy,” he was quoted as saying.TRTSpor“.

Regular keeper Fernando Muslera suffered a cruciate ligament strain in December and has been out since. Galatasaray, which is in a relegation battle, therefore needs a reasonable replacement, Bürki was the chosen one.

Roman Bürki sorted out at BVB

The last few months have not been easy for the Swiss. After the 31-year-old was banished to the bench under Edin Terzic, Gregor Kobel’s arrival hasn’t even left a spot in the matchday squad for the keeper. There were options to change in the summer, but apparently the goalkeeper, who earns a high salary in Dortmund, was not completely convinced by anyone who was interested. Among other things, he is said to have rejected FC Basel.

Bürki came to Dortmund from SC Freiburg in the summer of 2015 and succeeded Roman Weidenfeller. The goalkeeper made 232 competitive appearances for BVB and won the DFB Cup twice with the Black and Yellows (2017 and 2021). If you believe the latest reports, BVB will probably continue to sit on Bürki for the time being.
