BVB talent on the way to the pros

In Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has a highly talented winger. Mike Tullberg, his coach at BVB’s U19s, has now revealed how close the young Englishman is to making the leap to the pros.

In September 2020, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens made the leap from Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund – following in the footsteps of a certain Jadon Sancho. The 21-year-old also came to the Revierklub as a teenager, where he made his breakthrough to become a world star in no time at all.

The 17-year-old Bynoe-Gittens is far from that far, but the attacker is certainly expected to have a career with the black and yellow professionals. “I don’t have to say anything about his potential. You can see that”, quoted “Responsive sport” Dortmund coach Mike Tullberg for the U19s, where Bynoe-Gittens has been playing since his arrival. Due to several injuries, the youngster has only made eight appearances so far.

“The most important thing is that he gets fit. He’s not that yet. We still have a few months left and then we hope that he’ll play in big stadiums at some point,” said the Dane, who plays with his team in the A-Junior Bundesliga West is the clear leader after nine games.

BVB: Bynoe-Gittens has to improve these things

For Tullberg, it ultimately doesn’t matter “whether he’s with the pros in March or June”. The main thing is “that it works when it’s there”.

Before that, the 1.75-metre-tall winger would have to improve two specific things in order to get a chance in head coach Marco Rose’s squad: “One is that he has to learn to play the ball at the right moment. Sometimes he blocks the ball long. To do that, he needs to get a little better defensively.”

What Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is already doing better, on the other hand, should soon open the doors for him with the professionals: “The way he asserts himself offensively in a one-on-one is on a completely different level.”
