BVB problem child Reyna “full of energy”

Giovanni Reyna wants to start again at Borussia Dortmund after a long period of suffering in the coming season. BVB trainer Edin Terzic found the American highly motivated in the first few days of preparation.

“Gio is very busy,” the Rose successor is quoted as saying by the “kicker”. At just 19, Reyna already has a long history of injuries. In the past season, the attacking midfielder was repeatedly stopped by muscle injuries, so he only played twelve games for BVB.

“It does something to you, especially with such a young guy,” said Terzic about the recurring setbacks.

In the meantime, however, Reyna also seems to be in good mental shape again. “When I talk to him now, he’s full of energy,” revealed the 39-year-old: “He’s looking forward to us, we’re looking forward to him and we hope that he can take the next step, that he can become even more physically stable , to be on the pitch with us much more often.”

BVB wants to “learn from the past”

Reyna was by no means the only BVB professional who has repeatedly struggled with injuries in the recent past. In the last season, Dortmund had to cope with numerous failures. The topic of load control therefore plays a major role in the preparation for the black and yellow.

“We have to learn from the past not to put the lads under pressure too quickly,” explained Terzic.

With a view to Reyna and right-back Mateu Morey, who missed the entire pre-season due to a cruciate ligament injury, the head coach added: “Now it’s about the boys not coming back as soon as possible, but staying with us as long as possible.”
