Giovanni Reyna is one of the most talented and creative offensive players in the squad at Borussia Dortmund. But the 19-year-old has been missing from BVB for five months now. According to sports director Michael Zorc, an early comeback is in sight.
Giovanni Reyna is working hard on his comeback at Borussia Dortmund. He completed the BVB training session on Wednesday with the team.
After the Bundesliga break against Bayern Leverkusen on February 6 (3:30 p.m.), the American could be back in the squad for the first time since Matchday 3.
Reyna was out due to a torn muscle fiber and hopes of a quick return to the pitch were dashed after the first few weeks. In December he was able to take part in parts of the training for the first time, but even a deployment at the turn of the year came too early for Reyna.
Sports Director Michael Zorc told the “Ruhr news“Now see how much BVB is looking forward to the offensive player: “Gio is almost like a newcomer for the second half of the season. He had an excellent start to the season in the summer and unfortunately we missed it for a long time. We hope that he is now tolerant of the strain in training.”
Giovanni Reyna makes “the difference” at BVB
Zorc also explained that Reyna could be used in several positions in the coming weeks. “He has already played very well in 4-3-3. He can help us in midfield as an eighth and also on the wing, although he is not a classic winger and prefers to move into the center from there,” said the sporting director.
Reyna distinguishes “his very fine sense of which spaces he has to move in,” said Zorc. The motto is: “The further up the field he plays, the more dangerous he becomes.”
Sebastian Kehl, Zorc’s designated successor at BVB, emphasized Reyna’s “rascality”. “At the level we are at we have lacked options to make the difference.” It is possible that Reyna will make a first short appearance against Bayer if the training goes well.
