Jude Bellingham has long been an integral part of the Bundesliga soccer team Borussia Dortmund. The new BVB head coach Edin Terzic is now letting the 19-year-old climb up the internal team hierarchy.
Jude Bellingham is the new third captain at Borussia Dortmund. The young Englishman had already proved in the previous season that, despite his age, he is already one of the leading players in the black and yellow.
This is now underpinned by Edin Terzic’s decision to transfer the captaincy to Bellingham when Marco Reus and Mats Hummels are off the field.
In the most recent friendly against Villarreal (0-2), Bellingham took over as captain for the first time when Reus was substituted in the 70th minute. Hummels was also no longer on the pitch at that point. Terzic then confirmed that it was by no means a coincidence.
“That’s a sign. Jude is the third captain,” said the 39-year-old in a media round after the defeat against the Spaniards. Bellingham was one of the few players who played the full game.
Terzic after BVB bankruptcy: “It doesn’t feel good”
For Borussia Dortmund, the bankruptcy was the second within a few days. The runners-up had previously been beaten by FC Valencia (1:3).
“How satisfied can you be? A lot has happened this week,” Terzic said on Friday evening after the dress rehearsal for the upcoming cup duel at third division club 1860 Munich. In addition to the two defeats, BVB also had to cope with the absence of Sébastien Haller, who was diagnosed with a testicular tumor. “We’ve now had two games, two defeats. Most importantly, we’ve conceded five goals again. That doesn’t feel good. What annoys us the most is how we got them.”
Nevertheless, Terzic “also took a few good things from the game”. You now have to “minimize errors”, but he is not yet worried.
