BVB, Gladbach, Hertha BSC and Co. affected: Five Bundesliga coaches under pressure

Several teams have remained more or less below their expectations in the Bundesliga so far. Five coaches are under pressure ahead of Matchday 20:

MARCO ROSE (Borussia Dortmund/2nd place in the table): For Marco Rose, Friday was groundhog day again. He sits there on the podium at regular intervals and has to try to explain why his team produces total failures after strong to excellent performances. “Our task is to manage as a team not to use these clichés all the time,” he demanded. “To increase the gaps in which we disappoint our fans.”

The roller coaster is racing. Borussia was 0:2 behind at Eintracht Frankfurt, the tears were already finished. Then she turned the game into a 3:2 with extreme passion, then swept away SC Freiburg 5:1 – and failed embarrassingly in the cup at second division St. Pauli (1:2). The search for consistency is a running gag.

ADI HUTTER (Borussia Mönchengladbach/12th place in the table): Adi Hütter is in crisis mode. After six defeats in the last eight games, including the cup embarrassment at second division club Hannover 96, the Austrian sees “the most difficult situation in my 13-year career”.

But he is not afraid of his job before the difficult game against Union Berlin on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky). “I feel a lot of trust within the club,” emphasized the 51-year-old. But Hütter also knows “that we have to get out of this situation as quickly as possible”. Max Eberl was unable to answer questions about Hütter’s future on Friday: the sports director was absent from the press conference, as he was ill at the game in Hanover (0:3).

TAYFUN KORKUT (Hertha BSC/13th place in the table): No, the coach who was only hired at the end of November does not have to fear his quick dismissal. But the gentle euphoria after the win at the end of the first half of the season against Borussia Dortmund has already evaporated. Above all, the cup defeat in the derby against Union Berlin hit Hertha hard – and now the next setback is threatening against Bayern Munich.

Korkut can be sure of the backing of managing director Fredi Bobic, who unexpectedly pulled him out of a hat as Pal Dardai’s successor. But the doubts of the fans grow with every defeat. At the latest after the Bayern game, Korkut must also deliver.

FLORIAN KOHFELDT (VfL Wolfsburg/table position 14): The ambitious coach is stuck in a time warp. Like last year at Werder Bremen, Florian Kohfeldt got into a negative whirlpool, meanwhile he has not won ten games as coach of Lower Saxony. “I don’t doubt myself, but I question myself,” says the 39-year-old about his situation.

In the case of the Hanseatic League, the sporting descent led to the first relegation in 41 years, Kohfeldt was (too) late on leave after the penultimate game of the season. You won’t have that much patience for him on the Mittelland Canal.

PELLEGRINO MATARAZZO (VfB Stuttgart/table position 17): Those responsible at VfB around CEO Thomas Hitzlsperger are still trying to remain calm. Despite the precarious situation, coach Pellegrino Matarazzo said he didn’t see “any unrest about me or the team” ahead of the derby at SC Freiburg. But there is, he conceded, “the one or two percent uncertainty that one works against.” Nevertheless: “I feel that everyone wants to go along with it”.

However, the VfB coach is bothered by the fact that “we don’t score the goals. There are players who make eight out of ten attempts in training – but not in the game. That really annoys me.”
