The fixed message from BVB on the commitment of Niklas Süle is the football news at the start of the week. The second-placed in the Bundesliga made it official on Monday afternoon that the 26-year-old would move from FC Bayern to the Ruhr area on a free transfer. So far, nothing has been heard from the people of Munich about the whole matter. Is the Niklas Süle cause the beginning of a new ice age between the record champions and Borussia Dortmund?
Across football Germany, supporters of both FC Bayern and BVB are waiting for a statement from Munich on the upcoming Süle departure to BVB of all things.
There is a simple reason why the German record champions did not comment publicly on the matter until Monday evening: he only found out about the departure in the direction of Dortmund on Monday. At least that’s what the “sports picture“.
Accordingly, the Westphalians managed a real transfer coup with the commitment of the 26-year-old. After it was clear that Süle would not extend his expiring contract with FC Bayern, the Munich club officials apparently assumed a move to the English Premier League.
As “Sky” reporter Florian Plettenberg reported, that should have been the expectation of many teammates. The surprise on Monday among the professional squad was all the greater when the move to BVB was publicly announced.
According to media reports, Dortmund’s Borussia only informed their rivals from the south about the free transfer in the summer after the national player had signed the contract. A clear indication that a new Zoff is imminent between Bayern and BVB.
More details about the Süle deal could further fuel the frustration on the part of FC Bayern. According to a report in the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung”, the central defender should earn almost ten million euros at BVB in the future.
The German record champion is said to have offered just as much to his number four. However, Süle had turned down this offer from Munich with the obvious reason that he did not feel valued enough at Bayern.
On Sunday, his advisor Volker Struth confirmed the corresponding assumptions in the “double pass” at “Sport1”.
The official black and yellow press release also includes a small tip to the south. On the BVB homepage it is correct to read that Süle is “the defender with the most appearances in the Bundesliga” this season, namely 19th place.
Shortly before, Bayern’s longtime CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had publicly put into perspective the sporting importance of the defender by saying in a “Sky” interview: “You have to say that FC Bayern is well manned in defense even without Niklas Süle . […] The problem is he never really established himself in his position.”
